This post is in the Service Delivery Unit, in the Global Transport Centre.

The Service Delivery Unit within GTC is responsible for the freight forwarding contracts, sea and air carrier relationships and in country logistics.

While managing the contracts for UNICEF’s global Shipping and Freight Forwarding requirements, activities range from performance management, freight management, freight calculation tools and control of SD transport processes and procedures to ensure timely and effective delivery of UNICEF supplies.

The incumbent will assist in monitoring activities related to the global freight forwarding contracts, data monitoring, rates management, carrier collaboration to ensure timely and cost-effective activities, and support the end-to-end strategy implementation with the overall goal of meeting the needs and requirements of UNICEF assisted programs and Procurement Service customers.

How can you make a difference?

Under the general supervision of the Shipping Specialist, establish, coordinate, and monitor activities related to international transportation of goods to ensure timely and cost-effective movement of supplies to UNICEF-assisted programs and Procurement Service Customers.

  • Plan and execute outbound and inbound shipments, using multimodal transportation (air, sea, road) from and to UNICEF warehouses, local hubs, and from suppliers in accordance with established procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Provide advice to customers regarding modal selection, most appropriate route to ensure economic and efficient transportation, taking into account time and temperature sensitive, and hazardous nature of the goods, cost, transit time and security.
  • Work closely with UNICEF’s Contractors for International Transport Services (Freight Forwarders) to ensure compliance with Terms of the Agreement and UN Regulations.
  • Coordinate with contractors for international transport services and other stakeholders’ potential options for consolidation of shipments, taking into account programme priority, warehouse capacity, purchase order delivery dates and special requests from Field offices & Procurement Service Customers.
  • Develop potential options for optimized air cargo load plans for air charters and commercial flights.
  • Deal with special arrangements for transporting sensitive cargo, such as vaccines, pharmaceuticals, dangerous goods, and medical supplies, including real-time tracking of such shipments.
  • Monitor ongoing shipments, anticipating problems and proactively taking preventive and corrective actions.
  • Handle routine questions and problems and maintain open communication with other UNICEF centers / offices throughout the shipping / delivery cycle.
  • Address shipping incidents and coordinate involved actors to ensure maximum mitigation of adverse effects to all parties.
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of complex shipping operations, involving emergency operations, large cargo volumes, multiple shipments, and sensitive cargo.
  • Obtaining, checking, and preparing shipping documentation (such as, invoices, hazmat declarations, cert of origin, cert of conformity, etc.

to meet customs requirements, packing specifications, and compliance with other countries’ regulations and fiscal regimes.

  • Use IT systems to manage and monitor shipment status, delivery times, transportation budgets, and other transport-related data.
  • Maintain communication and control through all phases of the transportation, including filing of shipping records, and the generation of routine and statistical reports.
  • Maintain global consignee master file through relevant additions, deletions, and changes.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have

Requirements :

  • Completion of secondary education, a technical or vocational certificate in logistics & transport, freight forwarding, or related field.
  • Five years of experience in international transportation using multiple modes of transport (air, sea, road), cargo operations, commercial freight forwarding, Knowledge of supply chain, logistics and / or freight forwarding services.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite of Products (including Microsoft 365 programs and apps).
  • Fluency in English.
  • Valid work permit and residency in Denmark at the time of submitting the application. Note that the selected candidate is responsible for obtaining any required extension of their residency permit as an extension cannot be dependent on an employment with UNICEF.

Desirables :

  • Experience working with ERPs
  • Proficiency in another UN language (Spanish, French, Russian, Chinese, Arabic).
  • Advanced skills in data handling and reporting (knowledge of PowerBI or other business intelligence applications an advantage)
  • Experience in contract management or similar
  • Knowledge in Transport Management Systems and EDI integrations
  • Knowledge of Sustainable logistic solution
